In 1997, Congress created title XXI of the Social Security Act to provide health care for the growing number of uninsured children in the U.S. This legislation provided states with the opportunity to create programs to increase access to affordable health insurance. In Georgia, this program is PeachCare for Kids.
PeachCare for Kids began covering children in 1999, providing comprehensive health care to children through the age of 18 who do not qualify for Medicaid and live in households with incomes at or below the federal poverty level.
To qualify for PeachCare for Kids the child must be 18 years of age or younger, currently uninsured, and a U.S. citizen or a qualified legal resident or refugee who resides in Georgia. Family income can be no more than $39,000 for a family of 3 and $47,000 for a family of 4.
Benefits for PeachCare for Kids include preventive services such as immunizations and check-ups, dental & vision care, physician care, emergency room services, hospitalization, and prescription medications.
